Fall Colors On The Prairie

The prairie is dressed in its fall colors, from deep rich contrasts to soft pastels, it is truly a beautiful sight to behold. And, much like the prairie, the buffalo are changing too, putting on their fall coats and colors. Here are a few snapshots of our very lucky view! Enjoy and Happy Fall. Jill

The fall colors ARE exquisite. I was in SD last week for the “buffalo” roundup at Custer and the
Volksmarch at Crazy Horse. We drove to Devils Tower through Spearfish Canyon and the yellow aspens were beautiful. I had hoped to stop at your retail store to thank you for your delicious meat, but we never made it back to Rapid in time. Going to Badlands, Wind Cave and Mt Rushmore were all day excursions. You are so blessed to live there.

Jill, you captured the feel of fall on the prairie with your photos beautifully. You are very lucky to be able to grab your camera and head out to get such beautiful shots of such wonderful wide open spaces…especially striking with your grazing buffalo. Love the fall colors of the yellow Cottonwoods, purple asters, bleached colored grasses, browns of the buffalo, and of course the bluest of blue skies. Thanks for sharing your prairie and buffalo photos. I always look forward to seeing them! " Here’s to the fall, my favorite time of year!" Take care, Rhonda

As a former resident of South Dakota, I’m always delighted to see pictures of the west river landscape, particularly when buffalo are included.

Gorgeous – as always, Jill. What an absolute visual treat! I love the calf, smelling the flowers – we should all take time, to do that. It’s a very engaging reminder. The very first photo is stunning – it’s such an apt depiction of Fall.

On 9/12 I was flying over the Rockies to San Francisco and noticed red streaks on the mountains….maybe the aspens appear to be brick red from 37,000’ …..then I saw a winter wonderland in the vicinity of Yellowstone…1st snow fall of the season there….a beautiful sight in clear flying weather.

You are an artist with your camera. You’ve magically captured the serenity of the prairie in one of the most beautiful and tranquil seasons of the year when plants are going to sleep before winter. Can’t wait to see your winter photos.

Excellent views of your fall foliage and panoramas. Just did a short break to the Mogollon Rim country to appreciate a little of the same. Now back at work in Baja Arizona off the Rim and talking to a trucker at work here who is from Salt Lake and the Wasatch Front. He assures me he will look into ordering a quarter bison to prepare himself. I have not ever waxed so glib about the monumental undertaking of the heart you at Wild Idea continue to promote. Jason obviously embraced the messages in your blogs with enthusiasm, and says he’ll be spreading the word in his home state. I hope you begin to see more orders from the Wasatch Front region, if not blessed with a bunch there already.

Those are beautiful photographs so thanks for sharing them. I enjoy your bison and fully intend to visit your ranch one day. I now live in Lincoln, NE but grew up in western Nebraska in a little town called Gordon. My family and I spent a lot of time in the Black Hills and we had relatives living in Rapid City so we visited there a lot. I went swimming many times in Evans Plunge in Hot Springs. I miss being there so we are planning a visit sometime next year. See you then.

Love those pictures and the bison. Magnificent animals of the planes. Glad you are promoting them. Much healthier meat than domestic cattle. Love seeing them in their natural habitat. Have a wonderful Christmas.

Beautiful photos! Makes me miss being out in the country so. I lived in northern CA for 43 yrs. and now in southern CA … just not the same. The nature in these photos are so serene. I bet the buffalo are happy, or at least very content. They are beautiful animals and so worth our care….
