The Buffalo are Back...

has taken a hundred years for the icon of the American Great Plains to return from near extinction. Demand for their healthy meat and a desire to restore the Great Plains to its former glory has driven an explosion in buffalo numbers.

However, buffalo have returned to a much more complicated world. Until recently, the tragedy of the great buffalo slaughter of the 1870's lingered in the fact that the tanneries of America no longer processed buffalo hides. Many buffalo hides were going to landfills -- and upon request from Wild Idea Buffalo customers we are starting a line of artisan buffalo leather products.
