Light on the Darkest Day

As the darkest day settles upon us, we look forward to the light ahead, shinning a little bit more with each passing day. We hope you can find the beauty in nature on this day and if not, Jill has put together a collection of photos that capture the light. Happy Solstice everyone!

Buffalo in snowSnow falling through the light, glitters like confetti in the brightness.

A cottonwood leaf illuminates it rich amber color in the frozen creek bed.

Downtown Rapid city SunriseSunrise on St. Joe. Rapid City, SD.

Pink clouds over Rocky Mountain FrontA breathtaking cloud hangs over our sourcing partners ranch, along the Rocky Mountain Front.

Solstice sunrise, pushes through the morning fog.

The buffalo, strong and tenacious, come into view through a winter whiteout.

Overnight guests (grandkids) enjoy the cozy spot - warmed by the fire and the sun.

Snow falling in the moonlight.

Ice crystals against the prairie sky.

Colton JonesColton doing morning chores, hoping the sun will break the subzero temperature.

Bison River CrossingThe buffalo move through the cold, clear water of the Cheyenne River, protected by their layered coats, richly colored in the the sunlight.

Cheers to brighter, warmer days ahead!

Your pictures are gorgeous. I grew up on a sheep and cattle ranch in southern Wyoming so the ranch chore photos sure do resonate! Happy Holidays to all of you!

Continue to enjoy the beauty of this cold holiday season.

PS. For you Jill: I took my students to see an exhibition which is here in Grenoble now. I gave them a guided tour in English. The phoTOgrapher: Vivian Maier. Such amazing photos and such an extraordinary story as to how they were discovered and who she was. A street phoTOgrapher….you are a prairie phoTOgrapher!
