Shoot Out South Dakota Photo Contest

Each year South Dakota host's an event called, "Shoot Out South Dakota". Photographers of all different levels gather and capture images of our beautiful state and the creatures that inhabit it. Our Cheyenne River Ranch was one of the selected locations this year. To add a little extra encouragement, we turned our location into a photo contest.

    Beautiful photos! It is almost impossible to imagine what your state and others looked like before the “white man invasion.” Millions of bison roaming wild, living in their natural habitat. And then the annihilation of these animals by whites who relished shooting them from a train, piling up their skulls and selling them to make fertilizer. How the Native Americans cried over the slaughter of that animal that was so central to their existence. I am glad that someone has taken the time to photograph these magnificent creatures in what remains of “the open plain.”
