Baby Barrett's Arrival - A Father's Story

At 5:01 p.m. on June 8th 2017, another prairie boy was added to the mix on the Cheyenne River Bison Ranch. Barrett Elton Jones came into this world a hearty child weighing 9 lbs. 15 oz. and measuring 20.5”. His mother was flawless throughout her second time of the delivery process. Jilian proved to be poised and in control, which is a little different than the ambiance of the ranch in the days preceding Barrett’s arrival.

Wild Means Wild

In about a week we will start gathering the buffalo off the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands (their winter pasture) and bring them back across the Cheyenne River to their summer pasture. It will also be the first time that I have been among them since my accident, almost two months ago.

When I saw my son Lincoln for the very first time, I knew my life had changed. There was something about this small vulnerable human being that made me want to protect, teach, and love him all at the same time. His dark blue eyes stared at me inquisitively.

A Recipe Celebration of the Garden Tomato

Tomatoes are the STAR produce item in our garden, and oh how we love them! They are a true celebration of our gardening efforts, and plucking them off the vine and into your mouth is like eating a burst of sweet sunshine.
