Join the Mission

At Wild Idea Buffalo Company, we do things differently.

Our work starts with restoring the Great Plains grasslands and honoring the animal that shaped them: the American Buffalo.

We're not a conventional meat company. We're conservationists, storytellers, land stewards, and doers. Every role here, whether it's on the ranch, on the humane field harvest team, or behind a desk, contributes directly to our mission: healing the land, honoring the animal, and offering a better way forward.

We believe in hard work, humility, and integrity. We believe in  listening closely to the land and in working shoulder-to-shoulder with people who care deeply about what they do.

If you’re passionate about ecological restoration, humane food systems, and being part of a team with a purpose, we’d love to hear from you.

Humane Field Harvest Crew

This is not ordinary meat processing. This is sacred work.

At Wild Idea Buffalo Company, we practice a 100% Humane Field Harvest. This is a method rooted in respect, precision, and deep ecological ethics. Our buffalo live wild and free on the native prairies of the Great Plains. When their time comes, they are harvested one at a time on the land they were born to, without fear or stress. This crew ensures that process is carried out with the utmost care.

We are seeking dedicated, capable individuals to join our Humane Field Harvest Crew, working directly on our mobile processing unit. This is hands-on, physical work — but also emotionally meaningful, requiring steadiness, respect, and presence.

Responsibilities:

  • Skinning and breaking down buffalo in the field with skill and care

  • Working as part of a coordinated team to efficiently process carcasses to transport stage

  • Honoring the life of the animal through ethical, precise, and intentional handling at every step

  • Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of the mobile unit in accordance with USDA protocols

  • Supporting the harvest marksman and field crew with setup, breakdown, and transportation

  • Practicing safety and situational awareness in remote field environments and all weather conditions

  • Representing the values of Wild Idea in all interactions with professionalism and humility

Qualifications:

  • Experience with large animal butchering or wild game processing preferred

  • Familiarity with knives, saws, and field dressing tools

  • Physically fit and capable of lifting 75+ lbs repeatedly

  • Ability to work early mornings, long hours, and in remote locations

  • Comfortable working outdoors in rugged environments across all seasons

  • Strong sense of integrity, teamwork, and purpose

What We’re Looking For:

This role requires more than technical ability. It calls for a reverence for life and an understanding of what it means to take responsibility for a living creature. We are looking for individuals who are grounded, hardworking, and able to show up with focus and care, day in and day out.

This is meaningful work. It’s not for everyone. But for those called to it, there is nothing else quite like it.
