The results gave us a clearer picture of what "nutrient dense" actually looks like: B vitamins, iron, zinc, phosphorus and copper across the board, with each cut carrying its own distinct profile.

Our buffalo spend their lives grazing native prairie and remain on that land through harvest. We've chosen to raise them this way because we believe it is better for the buffalo and better for the prairie.
Now, independent testing through Edacious is giving us another way to understand the food that relationship produces.

What is Nutrient Density?
Nutrient density measures how much nutritional value — vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, protein — a food delivers relative to its calories.
Not all bison is created equal: how an animal is raised, what it eats, and the health of the land it grazes all affect the nutrient content of the meat itself.
Nutrient-dense food gives your body more of what it needs, bite for bite.
Who is doing the independent testing?
We partner with Edacious, a food testing lab focused on nutrient density and food safety analysis that gives producers and brands verified, market-ready results.
Edacious is an independent, ISO/IEC 17025-accredited lab, meaning their testing methods meet a recognized international standard for accuracy and reliability.
They're not affiliated with Wild Idea Buffalo.
Their job is to give us (and you) an unbiased read on what's actually in our meat.
How does independent food testing work?
Edacious's lab uses validated testing methods to analyze food for nutrient content and safety, covering things like fatty acids, minerals, vitamins, protein, and other key nutrients.
Samples of our bison are sent directly to their lab, where they're analyzed and benchmarked — giving insight into 100+ nutrients including the most important macros and micros, so you can understand both quality and variability.
Because the testing happens through a third party using standardized methods, the results reflect what's really in the product — not just what a brand claims.
